Why is moving healing?
When we move we set things in motion. Often when we experience strong emotions or are stuck in mental loops, moving is the last thing we want to do because there is something within us that feels safe with where we are, with the familiar, even though that may be something that is harmful for us.
But if we move then that which we feel, think or experience will also move. It will change, transform and transmute. Sometimes that happens quickly and at other times it takes longer, it takes patience, self-compassion and grit. We are made to move and our bodies need movement in order to stay healthy.
But, of course, not all moving is healthy. For movement to be a tool for healing we need to listen, listen to the body and the signals it sends out. Our bodies speak to us if we only listen and sometimes we need to turn the volume down in order to hear, sometimes we need to move slowly, pause and tune in.
At other times fierce and energetic movement may be required and everything in between. Energy starts flowing when we move.
Why is writing healing?
Expressive writing allows you to process your emotions and your experiences. You get to express something that lies within you, something that may want to come out and be released. Something that may block and be in the way for energy and life-force to flow freely through and within your being.
When you put your experiences into words it gets easier to find clarity and see things more from a distance. It can also function as a way to unload emotional and mental baggage and to soothe the nervous system. When we write expressively we do that without editing ourselves and there is no goal and no effort. Just open-minded and curious exploration.

Why combine the two?
Both moving and writing are powerful tools on their own, but when we combine them we get to engage and wake up more parts of ours bodies and brains, of ourselves and our being. For some people moving is easy, for others it can be challenging. The same with writing. But good stuff often happens when we move outside of our comfort zones.
When we combine moving and writing we can create magic. We open ourselves up to the unknown, to the mystery, to life itself which is also us. In order for this to happen we need to put ourselves out into uncharted territory, outside of what we already know. This helps us wake up, grow and come alive. To get curious and excited. To spark new ideas and to come home to ourselves.
Moving with Words is best done with a playful and lighthearted attitude, with a beginner’s mind. That’s when we can find the gold, the gold that lies deep within each and everyone of us. Our special gifts and talents. We need to move beyond the thinking mind and all the old concepts and ideas about who we are and what’s possible for us.
Through moving and expressive writing we can do that. We can surprise ourselves and learn things about ourselves that we didn’t know. We can spark that innate creativity that lies within all of us. See the world with new eyes, eyes of wonder and curiosity. When we do something that we haven’t done before, new seeds are planted in our hearts, minds and souls.
